FAQ's

Ad Creative - Ad agencies and buyers often refer to ad banners, graphics, layout and other forms of created advertising as "the creative." Since the creative requires creative inspiration and skill that may come from a third party, it often doesn't arrive until late in the preparation for a new campaign launch.

Advertiser - The Advertiser is any company who has a product or service that they would like a Publisher to market. (Also called Merchant, Retailer, E-retailer, or Online Retailer) An advertiser may places ads and links to their products and services on other Web sites (publishers) and pays those publishers a commission for leads or sales that result from their site. Publishers may also place Advertiser’s offers in emails, pop ups or other active advertising.

ASP - An ASP is an online network that is accessible through the Internet instead of through the installation of software. It is quickly integrated with other Web sites. ASP services are easily implemented and scalable

Clickthrough - is what is counted by the sponsoring site as a result of an ad click. In practice, click and clickthrough tend to be used interchangeably. A clickthrough, however, seems to imply that the user actually received the page. Some advertisers are willing to pay only for clickthroughs rather than for ad impressions.

CPA (Cost-per-acquisition) - is what an advertiser pays for each visitor that takes some specifically defined action in response to an advertisement beyond simply clicking on it. CPAs can be acquisition of a customer lead (customer completes a web form) or acquisition of a customer sale (customer executes as specified sale).

CPM - is "cost per thousand" (the letter "M" is the Roman numeral for one thousand) ad impressions, an industry standard measure for selling ads on Web sites. This measure is taken from print advertising.

Opt-in e-mail - is e-mail containing information or advertising that users explicitly request (opt) to receive. Typically, a Web site invites its visitors to fill out forms identifying subject or product categories that interest them and about which they are willing to receive e-mail from anyone who might send it. The Web site sells the names (with explicit or implicit permission from their visitors) to a company that specializes in collecting mailing lists that represent different interests. Whenever the mailing list company sells its lists to advertisers, the Web site is paid a small amount for each name that it generated for the list. You can sometimes identify opt-in e-mail because it starts with a statement that tells you that you have previously agreed to receive such messages.

Offer - is an Advertisers campaign that Publisher promote.

Performance Based Marketing - Paying for actions taken by a consumer as they occur on the Internet, rather than paying upfront for advertising space. Any type of revenue sharing program where a Publisher receives a commission for generating a lead or sale for an advertiser

Publisher - The Publisher is an entity who will generate traffic to an offer. (Also known as an affiliate, associate, partner, reseller, content site, email marketer, or search marketer). A Publisher is an independent party that promotes the products or services of an advertiser in exchange for a commission on clickthroughs , leads or sales. The Publisher displays ads, text links, or product links on their Web site, email campaigns, or search listings and is paid a commission by the Advertiser when a visitor takes a specific action, such as filling out a form.

ROI (return on investment) - is "the bottom line" on how successful an ad or campaign was in terms of what the returns (generally sales revenue) were for the money expended (invested) on the offer.
